John Dockery realized his dream of owning a high-end, licensed cannabis dispensary this past June when Moja Life opened at 28 South Warren Street in downtown Trenton. As Trenton’s first legal cannabis dispensary, it was big news for the region, too. The much-anticipated opening generated a lot of buzz, no pun intended, and an abundance of positive vibes. 

Dockery, a third-generation Trentonian, wanted his shop to be a symbol of hope and authenticity. His journey as an entrepreneur began decades ago in the legacy market, where he gained experience, knowledge and legal woes. Today, he is driven by a commitment to social equity, community and quality.

“I get my product from all licensed growers in the state. I believe in supporting other local businesses. It’s great for Trenton, for the business community, to have legal, state-regulated cannabis. Everything we sell is tested and safe. There is no spraying allowed in the legal market,” he explains. He not only wants to sell the highest-quality products to his customers, but he also seeks to inspire others to find a path forward in life. He got a second chance in life, and he intends to make the most of it.

His personal philosophy, as well as his attention to detail, is apparent throughout the store. The space is sleek, modern, truly stunning, with products neatly displayed and clearly described. Visitors are greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff, as well as a space-age robot that knows more trivia than you can imagine. It can answer thousands of related questions!

The atmosphere is fun and inviting. “The experience of shopping here is unlike any other,” he continues. “It’s full of great surprises. We have a great space, with great artwork on our walls. It is just a nice feeling to come in.”

The space serves as a showcase for the product, which Dockery is proud to say is top-notch. It is important to him to introduce people to the most exceptional product and most elevated experience available. This, he believes, is the future of the industry.

Moja Life is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 7 pm, and Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm.
