Welcome to the wonders of weeds! Kathleen Yurwit, a Rutgers Master Gardener of Mercer County, will look at a brief history of weeds and examine the variety of weeds from the good to the bad to the in-between. This will include plant identification, positive and/or negative qualities, and environmentally safe methods of control. She will conclude with a citizen science experiment in which weeds are allowed to run wild for a year. Who knew weeds could be so much fun!
After retirement as a school social worker, Kathleen Yurwit entered Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County program in 2007 to enrich my gardening knowledge and improve my gardening skills. In the past 15 years I have served on many committees, including editor and contributor to our Newsletter, co-chair of the Perennial Garden Committee at the Mercer Educational Gardens, co-chair of the Identification and Diagnostics Committee, and co-chair of the Community Education Committee. These opportunities have nurtured my love of learning, as well as my love of gardening, proving once again the beauty and bounty of Nature is wondrous and endless.
